I Want My Daddy's Records! Old Skool Songs U May Not Know
July 29, 2016 06:26 PM PDT
Early August marks the anniversary of my oldest brother's death. His love for music has a profound influence on my life. This podcast is dedicated to the times when we would walk to Detroit Audio on Livernois and buy 45's for parties or to listen to. Most of the songs you will hear are records that my brother purchased, with a few of my purchases added for extra flavor. These are songs we played on the stereo in the basement while we were playing, entertaining or doing other activities (like skating in the basement when we weren't supposed to).
I Want My Daddy’s Records!
1. High On Your Love Suite – Rick James

A two hour mix of Old School songs that my parents used to play at house parties when I was young. We would always know when my parents were throwing a party because my mom would move all the coats in the front closet to her bedroom during the day. Then my dad would send my oldest brother Carl to the record store to get all the latest music the radio was playing at the time. During the party, we would wait for my parents and their friends to get good and tipsy. Then they would come into our room to wake us up so we could teach them the latest dance moves. Little did they know that we were never asleep, but we pretended to be. My brothers Carl and Kevin were the dancers at that time, so they led in teaching the dance steps. As for me, I was the youngest. So all I did was raid the cheese and olive tray (love olives to this day because of those parties). These selections are 70's and early 80's songs so most of them have a disco feel to them. And no playlist will be provided because you should know every song if you listen. Thank you and enjoy your trip in the "way back" machine. The Nasty 9
